What makes a marriage work?

I have no idea but I do know this for sure.

He guides and advises me but never controls me and (believe me) I know the difference. I have been in more than one relationship in which I have let men control me and also allowed them to treat me very badly.

I have so much admiration for my life partner aka my husband and professional dance partner David Watson. I love him beyond eternity. That goes without saying but I also respect him so much. He loves me just the way I am but sometimes I need to be tamed a little bit. Tone myself down just a tiny bit but still keep my personality and remain myself and he knows exactly how to help me to achieve that balance.

We talk about absolutely everything and he lets me go on and on about stuff I am concerned about until I feel it has been resolved. He has the patience of a saint and a heart of gold but he also lets me know when I have to change and learn. He puts his foot down when needed and I feel we have a very honest relationship. Not perfect. Oh my good. Not a chance. We have made so many mistakes but I do think that constant communication is what has made our marriage work.

If you can talk about about everything that pops up in your life, laugh together and remain honest with each other always then I think you have a shot.
